this is a 1950's version in chrome with engraved numbers (later productions have printed numbers)
I heard stories that this lens was used by Ansel Adams for the famous shot "Moon and Half Dome"

This is an interesting lens with moving aperture blades to open up and close down automatically when the focusing ring is turned. The function is to compensate for the light lost for close focusing. This was important in the early days when TTL metering cameras were not yet available.

Just shoot for fun, haha....this poison is no harm la because an excellent condition sample can probably be located with a bit of time, lens only cost around USD100

Zeiss Contarex Tessar 1:2.8 50mm
I brought it together with the Contarex Planar for some time. It takes a while to locate one of this as the Contarex Tessar 50/2.8 has much lower production number than the Planar 50/2.
The Contarex was the state of art at its time and whoever brought one wanted to have the best. The design was revolutionary with aperture controlled from the camera body and no aperture ring on the lens.
