Vince, thanks again & let me share some thoughts with you.
Since you already have M9, MM (may be other Ms) & lenses for these camers, M8 is just an additional body with IR, color, & B&W shooting capability.
1. Carry along a camera with one lens with you everyday, take some shots, or even one, when you can, i.e. office break, lunch break, tea break, or even in transportaions. 50/0.95 or 50/1 is not easy for quick snap. A 35 may be better, better yet, 35/3,5 elmar set to 5,6/8,0 is my favorite if need quick snap. With more DOF, one gets higher sucessful rates & encourage one to shot more.
2. Taking IR shot is no different, just pressing shutter release button. Of couse, it takes more time to post process. You may just want to take a few shots of various objects with greens or not and see the differences. Post processing - you can try my way 1st - I did spend lots of time myself to come out with this process - so you can get a head start.
3. I do have lots othe gears as well, however, I always try to master one lens & one body at a time till I feel comfortable. Like 1, try something which is easier to accomplish first.
4. Lucky you still can easily get film process in HK. It is very hard for me to find film process satisfactory here, a small city with less than 80,000 souls, that gives me a reason to migrate to full digital photography including medium format. Medium format IR may be easier if one uses a digital back with which IR cut filter is changeable - just change the normal filter with an IR pass thru' one. Most digital backs nowadays are not easy to be changed. If I can do this, you should not have problem doing so. Cheer up.
