x2... i think 6-bit coding involves patent and provides a physical signal for a Leica camera to recognise what the lens is. More importantly, it is the lens profile in the camera that helps the optimisation between the lens and the camera.
I guess, usage of the 6 bit coding would cost royalty fee. In a recent batch of R-to-M adaptor for M240 from a 3rd party, we can see "Under Licence from Leica Camera AG" printed on the adaptor, together with our familiar 6 bit-coding, whereas the 6-bit code shape of its initial batch (w/o "under licence from Leica Camera A/G" prints) is not what we are familiar with. |
