Leica T first hand experience

I manage to try the first Leica T in Hong Kong via a newspaper interview on collecting Leica yesterday.  Some first impression to share:

Build quality of the camera is top top top!
The accessories are very trendy, the case is very interesting and first of a kind. Remind me of the old Nokia 8250 phones, can change case : )
The LCD is very nice, looks even better than the one on M240
The lens are very plastic feel and all made in Japan
The M lens adaptor is very good and can read 6 bit. Using M lens is very easy
Autofocus is surprisingly fast especially on the prime lens. Zoom lens is relatively slow. But still autofocus is definitely acceptable level. Much much faster than those X2
The touch screen is actually very nice. I like the WiFi feature, you can save pics to your ipad/iphone instantly, view them, and also use your iphone to control and take pictures with the camera

Is the lens made of plastic or indeed it is of metal but having a plastic feel?

They are plastic and very light weight!

I could imagine the so called "plasticy" lens. That is exactly what I felt when I bought my A7 and checked out those native E mount lens made by Sony/Zeiss. They are very lighted weighted, somehow feeling a bit toy-like. They are nothing compared to the old lens that we usually played around here.

Having said that, I now highly suspect that Chings here would be poisoned and end up buying after playing around with the body.

Only luke warm for me at best because of its APS-C.

So far, with limited information, the lens system is no attraction anyway because of its plastic-ness and japan-made modern rendering.

Ok, if one confines it to using M-lens, the GXR experience says it's a wrong marriage.
The reality for most veteran Leica users is, you simply couldn't go back to anything less than FF with your M lenses, be they old or new.
Those of us who have turned from M8 to M9 know such unbearable compromise.

The design and hand-feel would be truly wonderful, I can imagine.

But it's only a first-class toy for showing to peers what a stylish machine it could be. And, of course, if you really appreciate its solid metal form craftsmanship, it's worth collecting one.

Picture quality? Even it tops all competitors of the APS-C class, can you really tell the difference with naked eyes?

yeah..i think the real "testing" point is when you had the camera in your hand, fiddling around the knobs and controls, will you be charmed by its elegant and solid build. On paper, I truely agreed with you that no leica aficionado would be satisfied with the specs alone.

I think the selling point for this will be the style and handling. The body is very very well built. The camera is Modern and the body is priced correctly.

My review is very brief trial of a few hours and they captured some video of me testing it and commenting it. I think it will be out tomorrow.

When buying a Leica, it is sometime not buying based on spec.  You cannot spec. the robust body, the style and handling. This Leica T is very trendy and if one is after a trendy camera with a lot of interesting accessories and high quality built. Then basically we have no choice out there.

It is like a fashion camera, made in Germany, by Leica. More about style.

The good autofocus is a surprise. The lens I haven't test much the output but I believe it should be good.

The electronic finally feel like a modern camera with good respond.. I think they started to catch up from Leica M240.

Or you want test pic of the camera?? Better not!! Based on M240 experience where I was the first posting test pic of M240 worldwide. My face was published everywhere in the world.. and upsetted Leica too...  : )
