Monitor calibration

I have always been using spyder 3 and just been upgraded to 5.  Of all the years I have done calibration it always turn the screen to a warmer tone.  But now when I used the spyder 5 it actually turns my monitor to a even cooler color, even more cool than the default "imac" color.

did I or did i not do anything wrong.....?

i keep gamma at 2.2, 6500k, the use the spyder to measure room brightness

every setting is the same as the old spyder 3, new 5k mac, i have no idea what's going on

Maybe your Spyder 3 has problem.  My experience is that I had been using a Spyder 2 for many years.  When one day I opened the Spyder 2 sensor due to curiosity, I found the green color filter covering the sensor inside had completely discoloured and fogged.  So I immediately change a new one.

So the sensor also has life span, the filter inside will change color with time.

Now I don't even know what is correct! The screen after calibration is even more blue/green than the stock "iMac" setting....

i read that spyder units are not calibrated at the factory so you are buying luck (at least for older versions like 2 and 3), i use eye one display 3 and so far so good (off topic, i use it to calibrate my panasonic plasma and after adjustment the result is night and day)

u need some sort of temperature compensation for the Spyder unit as well, they are also filter based and must be kept in the dry box as well.

By the way, what software do you use to calibrate?  I use dispcal which I think is better than the original Spyder software.

maybe you can try the simplest default setting without measuring room brightness to see if it can give better result.

by the way, how much is the upgrade price of spyder 5?

Sir, the download is free but is the whole process simple enough to go through, or is there any particular setting I should be aware of?

The whole calibration process of using dispcal is more complicated than the Spyder software but it is worthwhile for you to try.

http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10457 try this (the older version works better for as I am using the freeware ColorHCFR for it. It's a long process btw but it's worth it!
It also depends which plasma you have, if your menu has the professional section, you can do finer adjustment like the one shown in the tutorial above, my greyscale is almost flat after the adjustment
