Within the confine of the latter, a portrait is absolutely real to me.
Real in a sense that it's precisely what the face was and echoed to the environment at that time the shutter actuated.

Isn't it exactly "what is actual is actual only for one time"?

Yes. the face is "real" in a sense that it echoes to the environment while the picture is being taken. But that "realness" always has a quotation mark with it, because the person will act or pretend or fake in response to the camera. Then it is no longer the ordinary him or her.

But it is real as being real as with the camera. then it is exactly why fashion photography can be honest. it is honest, because it knows it is faking. (very interestingly, it was carla bruni who said that!)

I think candid shots are different. perhaps?

True. People tend to "act" in front of a camera (perhaps those from the raw villages do not).

That's why we praise a photographer for his/her ability to capture the least (or zero) "acted" portrait of the subject while keeping all the artistics perfect.

But then his/her effort may not be easily appreciated by the averaged viewers because viewers are mostly attracted to the superficial side of the picture only. In many cases, the photographer is the only (and lonely) person who knows how heart-touching his/her non-acted portrait could ever be.

Right, vvii ching's signature sums up all these.

如果能過得人，就會係大家公認既靚相，但師兄你覺得靚相最低條件係乜呢?你通常覺得靚又係咩相多呢?

Very critical wor CHing, 內涵 cannot really be seen in the photo, do you mean see through photo? perhaps 3D photo la...

You can see 內涵 of a photo (like a painting), but you have to spend time to find out what the photographer wants to say.......of course also depending on how well the photographer could convey the message thru his photos...
