Nikon want to the first manufacturer back then to produced a 1.4 50mm lens in 135 format and therefore rushed out the 50mm f/1.4 shortly after the 1.5 (less than 1 year). Therefore the 1.5 is so rare.
Nikon always want to be the first back then, they introduced the 35mm 1.8, being the first 35mm lens that have aperture bigger than 2.0 at thair time. That makes to first batch black rim 35mm 1.8 being even more meaningful (also it is the rarest nikon S mount lens of all), less than 75 ever made.
