12. Super-telephotographic effects from focal lengths of 800 - 1000mm
A totally flat perspective can be created with the above focal lengths. Things in the background are compressed to become patches of outfocused colors. On a clear day, especially one after heavy showers, particulate matters in the air are cleared. It is a ripe time for taking this kind of super-telephotographic shots. The following is a shot I took using a fieldscope mounted with a Nikon P5100 compact camera. The focal length is around 900mm.
Deciding the area to be focused has a significant bearing on the quality of the image to be produced. In the following shot, I nailed it down on the leaves and not the trunk. The reason is the trunk has a significant form of its own, so will be pretty okay in visual quality despite the fact that the focus was not on it. If the focus were not on the leaves, they would turn out to be a mass of not clearly defined tiny objects.
