For older recordings, nothing can compare to first press CD. First press West Germany CD and First press demo Japanese version are my favorite.

The key is the original first master tape always is the one with most information... no matter how you remaster it later, the master tape already worn out after so many years! Boosting dynamic will lost a lot of small details, this is the case with most remastering of old recordings.

To me, first press CD or LP is the only key to original good sound.

FM Acoustic is one of the top brand in Hi Fi, their 1 series are so small, each gear only size of 2 M camera.

The entire setup is smaller than a standard VHS player.

Ops, FM Acoustic is very good and can really fit into Hong Kong household very well.

I think first press CDs are not easy to get and easily out of press. Would you mind sharing where you usually shop for first press CDs?

eBay... and local second hand CD shops.  But I got almost all I wanted years ago.. approx. 500 first press CD collected.

Now I listen to them and enjoying them.

IMHO first press CD is the best digital source but still incomparable to LP!

Totally agree!!! LP have a special analog dynamic and musical tone. But CD can get very close but the effort in achieving it is huge!!

It is like film VS digital.

I also collect first press LP too!

Very well said.

To me, digital source is convenient and too "accurate" but short from getting close to reality. As High Fidelity means loyal to reality, it should closely resemble what can be heard in a concert hall in a natural environment and nothing more or less.  No excessive editing and exaggeration should be done. Unfortunately, this is not so in today's CDs, especially those DDD version.

Just my two cents.

Thats the reason I picked Cello, following some of the foot steps from some local HiFi Masters here in Hong Kong.

Well said! Nowadays Hi Fi tend to move to the direct of excessive "effects"...  no longer enjoying the music.

Can't agree more. That's why original old version LPs in mint condition are gems nowadays.

Luckily (Or sadly), the music nowadays are not very good too! So old LP/CD with old music are all that we need.

If the newer modern music are good, we are force to listen to those ultra 3D mastering for so call Hi Fi CD. Or some very bad almost home made recording quality CD.
